Peaceful, Lightened Kitchen
The kitchen in the new home of our client was dated, dark, and functionally awkward. It had a peninsula that bordered a breakfast dining area — a redundant seating decision that left the space feeling cramped and cut off.
Our client already had plans from a kitchen and bath showroom at her consultation. We made a few layout edits (including taking out a corner cabinet and removing upper cabinets around the sink window), and selected finishes that would function well in her busy household with small kids (cabinets would be stained, not painted, to avoid chipping).
BEFORE
The sink window was a natural focal point. By leaving ample space on either side of the window, and shifting storage to appliance garages on the perpendicular wall, we created open space and soft texture with counter-to-ceiling variegated herringbone tile. The result is a kitchen with increased storage that also feels larger.
