Made New with Antique Finds

Traditional dining room with an antique oak table and chairs, striped jute rug, large pleated fabric swagged chandelier, and vintage painting.

In a dining room used daily by a family of four, the goal was to create a traditional space that incorporated an inherited oak sideboard with newly-sourced antiques. The table needed to expand so larger holiday family dinners could be hosted with ease.

The previous two-toned gold walls and wood floors created a room that felt too warm. We carried a classic creamy wall and trim paint over from the living room (detailed here) for a neutral base palette to balance the oak.

BEFORE

A classic tiger oak antique expanding table with matching chairs were sourced on Marketplace — we recovered the chairs in a blue checked wool. The vintage red Chinoiserie desk, antique Chinese wall-hung tray, and vintage oil landscape were all found at local vintage markets. An oversized swagged pleated chandelier, pair of tall buffet lamps, and large guilded vintage mirror bring in unexpected finishes and scale to prevent the space from feeling staid.
